52 Week Project : Wk 21

Parent Night 2012

This is a nervous-dear-God-don't-let-them-eat-me-alive
-and-why-do-my-hands-have-to-shake face.
That smile says "heeeelllllp! Don't make me go.".

Give me 32 or even 64 students any day?
I can speak. I can joke and laugh.
I can be reasonably eloquent and somewhat cohesive.
I can hold the floor...ish.

Give me their beady eyed, sizing-you-up parents?
I can waver. I can quiver.
I can smile nervously and flap my hands around like a turkey.
I can clutch at 'playing cool' and convince nobody.

Come on over. We don't bite.

I so don't want to be one of those parents, but I have a sneaking suspicion I may end up as one. At least for my first child, after that I'm hoping I'll be more laid back. But for now I'm craving information about what's happening!

Oh Shar, I would be stoked if you were teaching my boys. You're a darling and I very much doubt there would be any parents giving you the hairy eyeball. You do look a little apprehensive in that shot, but still as gorgeous as ever :o) Hope the night went off without a hitch! xo

Why would you have to convince anyone of anything? I bet the parents LOVE you.

Meh, surely it's more important the kids respect and trust you?!

Hope it all went well.

Oh this is so weird to see this from the teacher's side. As i'm the school run mum & for the first few weeks walk my children in to school & outside their room to pick them up (normally due to large volume of books coming & going to get covered at home) i already know the teachers well enough so by Parent/ Teacher night, it's not an introduction, more down to business about my children. We're all smiles, i have great children but one teacher did say once "sorry, just have to say how handsome your husband & son are, sorry" & i tell you, that was an ice breaker & i knew my boy was being very well looked after that year. I normally bring something home baked too, another ice breaker, especially for high school teachers as i think they are quite removed from the soft primary mummies. I would LOVE my children to have you as their teacher. Are your classes that large (32 children) as my children's largest class in the ACT has been 23. Love Posie

Don't worry Sharon... Us mums are even more scared of these meetings. I always worry just how much my kids teachers have heard about what goes on at home... Kids have big mouths, and always make the smallest things sound bad!
I always cringe when I think of the poster that was on display in the SSS pre primary a few years back... "I feel sad when... My dad smacks me on the bottom".
A mums worst nightmare lol!

Shar I know exactly what you mean! I'm so fearful of confrontation and being put on the spot. I've only done parent teacher interviews once and I was sooo nervous! Anticipating the parent's fueled questions still makes my heart gain speed. You look gorgeous though!
