The Silver Lining

I've had a sick little Magoo on my hands since Boxing Day.
It doesn't happen often around here, but when it does it's pretty vocal.

Whataya know?
The symptoms of 'spoilt-only-child-who-was-over-indulged-on-Christmas-Day' present very similarly to  'a-serious-throat-infection-that-looks-absolutely-hideous-(red raw, grazed and ulcerated)-and-feels-even-worse.

I may or may not have threatened to confiscate Christmas gifts somewhere in the midst of my motherly misdiagnosis.
-Hangs head.-

It literally hurts my heart to see poor Magoo in so much pain.
It literally hurts my ears that the poor little man can't sleep for more than 15 minutes without screaming.

The silver lining?

The boy needs his Mummy.
For more than reading the hard words in books or cleaning his mess.

I've been reminded what it's like to be up all night with your baby - and, yep,  I still want one.

My house is spotless. For now.

The guilt I usually feel about us not spending enough time at home is all but gone.

I've made bunting for the playroom. (I admire bunting. I don't make it.)

The blender has been given a workout.

Ice cream is a genuine meal this week.

My wardrobe has finally been culled.

My cuddle stocks have been beautifully replenished.

I'm starting to think I'm a freaking (under appreciated!!) nurse.

Magoo actually thinks I'm a nurse.

The television has been reinstated in light of extenuating circumstances.

I don't have to cancel care/call off work/feel guilty about abandoning my sick child because it's. holidays. baby.

Think of the cash I've saved in fuel.

Hubby's around to share our pain - when he's not escaping for suspiciously long showers, very lengthy training sessions or apparently necessary trips to Bunnings outside of their opening hours. Weak!

The sun shines shamelessly around here at the moment.
All this extra washing is dry in no time.

I don't have to cancel plans with friends because we had none this week.
Our open 'come and swim/drink/eat' invitation to everyone we know has been revised though.

Magoo's aversion to doctors must be waning seeing as he wails 'I neeeeeeeed a doctor, Mum' every ten minutes or so. He even let the locum have free reign of his head.

Here's to a glorious impending new year - and a magic Magoo recovery.

Shar :-)

Oh Poor Magoo!!!!
Throat infections are awful!
But you are an awesome nurse/mum. I would also think ice cream being a genuine meal would be a silver lining!!

Hope your little Magoo is feeling better soon, but glad that your cuddle stocks have been nicely replenished :). I'm also reassured to hear that it's not just my hubby who has conspicuously long showers when the going gets tough. He's in good company!!

Is it bad that I was secretly glad my 4 year old has had a cold and felt like rubbish this week so we could be lazy and snuggle on the couch???

Hope Magoo feels better soon, poor kid. xx

Oh poor fella, I too am guilty of being a bit harsh at times of sickness. So much stuff flying around at the moment! All those crowded spaces.... Can't you tell I'm a bit of a germ phobic!!!;)

Oh poor little thing. I know how I feel when I've got a throat infection and you wouldn't dare wish that kind of pain on your worst enemy (well, maybe) let alone a gorgeous little child. Hope he get's better soon so that you can enjoy the rest of your time off. Wishing your little clan all the very best for the new year x

This is a great blog you have here!Hope your little man gets better, the poor thing. We have actually had the same in our house and lock down while the sun is shinning is hard! Olive Leaf works wonders, still took a few days, but I love that stuff. Wishing Magoo a fast recovery!!

Poor Mr Magoo! With a mum/nurse like you, I'm sure he will get better in no time - I hope so.

As usual, sounds like you are making the most of it and still managing to share your positivity and smiles with us to boot! (major kudos on the bunting!)

Happy new year Shar, hope Magoo pulls through in time to enjoy the fireworks xo

Oh poor sweet Magoo, it literally makes my heart ache to see the little ones poorly also, just horrible :o(
And oh dear, we have been threatening confiscating, recycling, giving away the Chrissy pressies quite often this week... but with my rowdy duo it is all PURE attitude and not illness... at the end of the day I'll take any attitude over having them sick though.
Hope he is doing better now and makes a full recovery for New Year xo

Oh bless his heart. My boy never gets sick either but once, oh love him, he was so quiet (for 4 days) & barely ate but as the youngest in a large family i didn't notice so much until it was time to resume preschool for the week & i thought, hmmm, he has been quiet & he had severe tonsilitis, spent 5 days in hospital. So good child, super bad mother!! Love Posie

Oh Shar, I'm a bit late with the news here. Hopefully little Magoo is feeling chipper again. We have been organising and decluttering the boys' room like mad today. Why do we do it to ourselves?! J x
