This week I'm particularly grateful for my current head space
(regrowth and all).
Mental health is not something to be taken for granted.
Some experiences this week have hammered home how powerful but fragile (and damn cruel) the human mind can be at times.
They have also made me aware of how flippantly and irresponsibly I tend to misuse mental health related terms in an (attempt at) humour or in a self effacing manner.
Seeing a beautiful woman reduced to undignified, dangerous behaviour, a family torn apart and children suffering at the hands of mental illness is no laughing matter.
Being 'mental', 'insane' or 'committed' really is no joke - even for a slightly neurotic clown like me.
My feeling is simply -
'there but for the grace of God' - goes myself - or someone I love.
There is no room for judgement, scorn or criticism.
Just such sadness and sympathy.
It's a precious thing this positive state of mind I enjoy - at this point.
A privilege that often isn't appreciated until it's compromised.
My good friend anxiety doesn't hang out here much anymore and Miss Self Hater has thankfully long left the building.
Disappointments and attitudes that would have cost me valuable sleep in the past are much easier to put into perspective these days.
This weekend I'll treasure those I love and this beautiful mind all the more.

Nice one, Shar. You have no idea how much your thoughtful words mean to me this week. x
so true, you've really hit the nail on the head.
Well said Shar, a disease of the mind can be equally as crippling as one that attacks the body... in some ways much more so. I think we all tend to bandy those terms about and we could probably do well to think twice before the words come out. Thanks for bringing that to light xo
this post is lovely, and thought provoking. thanks for your words, and the reminder that everyone you meet is facing an invisible battle!
Shar I agree with all points. I too thank my lucky stars for a sane mind (for the most part) and am always mindful of the effects of poor mental health. Never taking sound mind for granted.
Good grateful post Shar.:)
Wow your post has come at a perfect time for me...as i'm grateful for a positive attitude. thanks for sharing xx
This post moved me to tears. Thank you for your beautiful words at a time when I really needed them.
As a sufferer of depression and mild anxiety I HAVE to agree with you. Mental health is not to be taken for granted.
This one was very close to home for me. I too have been in that dark place, but thankfully am in a good place right now.
I am so happy to hear that you too have learnt to keep anxiety and self hater at arms length.
