I Still Do, honey

Hubby, we've come a long way, baby.
Five years today.
Often I have to remind myself that we've only been Mr & Mrs for five years.
Sometimes it feels like five decades!
Especially for you.

Although we don't always see eye to eye, or even eye to ear at times, I wouldn't swap this life we're creating for all the turkish delight in Turkey.
Honestly.

Who else would I fancy having my head & hands down the back of a toilet with?
Who else would take me into the garage and box with me when I'm feeling agitated?
Who else would continuously goad me by calling out "stop the car!", when we both know the chick on the Ikea ad says "start the car!"?
Who else would load the Mission Impossible theme tune onto my ipod when I was supposed to be working towards my first marathon goal?
You know exactly how to infuriate me and motivate me all at once.

You like to tell me that I'm responsible for those (gorgeous) greys you're sporting - but have you had a look at me lately??
I win the depreciation game hands down.
This reality, combined with the fact that I love you so intensely, mean that I have no intention of going anywhere, anytime soon - or ever.
Are you scared yet?

Hon, you have taught me plenty about you (and countless other random subjects) - but even more about myself.
You astound me - and inspire me- with your patience and flexibility at times.
You accept me and my neurotic tendencies without judgement and only the slightest hint of confusion.

I miss you when we're not together.
Really miss you.
I love seeing your name light up the screen when my phone sparks up that annoying ring tone.
You're the first person who springs to mind when I stuff up, but also when I 'done good'.
Either way, I know you'll laugh or celebrate with me in the aftermath.

Five years ago today we signed our lives to one another as the words of Bernard Fanning filled the Basilica in Fremantle.

When trouble fills my world
You bring me peace
You calm me down
You're my relief
When walls come crashing down around my feet
You light my way
You're my release

So say you'll watch over me
When I'm in too deep
Tell me you'll always be
There to pull me free

When the sun is beating down upon my brow
You are my shade
You cool me down
Every time I tried to turn away
You brought me 'round
Your humble way

So say you'll watch over me
When I'm in too deep
Tell me you'll always be
There to pull me free
There to rescue me

For every time you sheltered me from harm
You showed me truth
Kept me warm
Every time you left me on the street
I found my way
I found my feet

So say you'll watch over me
When I'm in too deep
Tell me you'll always be
There to pull me free
There to rescue me
There to pull me free
There to rescue me

We pranced our first dance as husband and wife by the Indian Ocean to the soothing sounds of Jack Johnson.
There is no combination of words I could put on the back of a postcard
No song that I could sing, but I can try for your heart
Our dreams, and they are made out of real things
Like a, shoebox of photographs
With sepia-toned loving

Love is the answer,
At least for most of the questions in my heart
Like why are we here? And where do we go?
And how come it's so hard?
It's not always easy and
Sometimes life can be deceiving
I'll tell you one thing, it's always better when we're together

Mmm, it's always better when we're together
Yeah, we'll look at the stars when we're together
Well, it's always better when we're together
Yeah, it's always better when we're together

...

I believe in memories
They look so, so pretty when I sleep
Hey now, and when I wake up,
You look so pretty sleeping next to me
But there is not enough time,
And there is no, no song I could sing
And there is no combination of words I could say
But I will still tell you one thing
We're better together.

Hubby, you are still my shelter, my refuge, my relief, my strength and it is definitely better when we're together.
Love. Honour. Cherish.

Shar :-) xx

Stunning dress, now go make a little girl & hand it down to her. My girls all want to wear my wedding dress (um, 1997, gorgeous but they are lithe, i was only athletic build, it will never fit them) nice that they want to though. Love Posie
