These holidays I've reignited an old flame.Rekindled a past love affair.
Revisited days when I was footloose and fancy free.
Resurrected a passion and pleasure that I've missed.
I've read me some books.
Not just children's books - as fabulous as they are.
Not for reference.
Not a couple of pages per night before crashing, only to have to re-read the same two pages the following night before crashing again.
Not at such a slow pace that I have had to renew my library loan twice to finish them.
U.S.S.R. as we used to call it (or loathe it) at school.
Uninterrupted. Sustained. Silent. Reading.
(Well, relatively uninterrupted anyway.)
I've loved immersing myself in a great story or a compelling read again.
This week alone I've read two novels.
A Jodi Picoult heart wrencher and an Alex Cava heart thumper.
I've read when I have woken stupid early in the morning, when riding the exercise bike, for a portion of Master Magoo's nap nap in the day, on lazy afternoons cuddling Magoo and his books on the deck and in the evenings wherever I flop...
This indulgence is only possible because we are living sloooooooooow right now.
It can't last but it. is. gooooooooooood.
It's only a matter of days before I'm back to trawling curriculum materials, immersed in emails or student files and reading the expositions of ten year olds, so I'm savouring this leisure reading for all it's worth.

uninterrupted reading is a rare commodity in this house, but wonderful when I get the chance!

I haven't read a novel in ages! I wanted to do some reading over Christmas but that didn't happen. Being back at work (2 weeks now!) and back at uni, the only reading I make time for is work or study related... and blogs of course! I'm taking holidays in April, and reading is at the top of my list of things to do! Can't wait.
Just discovered your blog today, enjoying reading. I am trying to get back in the habit of reading books, as I miss them so much, don't get much time with 4 kids, but my aim for the year is 1 library book a month. Borrowed my first one this week, and started reading today, so we'll see how I go.
Jodi Picoult is always a good read.
Oh that was something I promised myself along with a million other things these holidays - to read a book. I have them piled up in my bedroom waiting for me. Ummm maybe next week ;)

I just remembered USSR! I love a bit of it, but it's hard to find the time to do it. I have a pile of books waiting to be read - might have some USSR tomorrow night.
We just came home from Stradbroke Island and I read two great books myself fist time in a year I had the chance just loved it, first one I fell asleep reading too LOL.

Ah, me too, me too... I just finished reading Liane Moriarty's excellent new book "The Hypnotists's Love Story' and am bereft... next it's one about the Glasgow underworld in the 50's... different!
Now the challenge is to keep reading when term starts...
Oh good for you, i am not a reader, i'm sure my children wonder if i can read, books i mean, well i can't, i'd rather be sewing. They are great readers, voracious even, all of them, they are silent, so i just enjoy that, like their daddy who reads a lot. Another good influence on them, not from me!! Love Posie
